A brief introduction to ferrosilicon alloys

Jinzhou Stone Trading Co., Ltd | Updated: Apr 01, 2021

The iron silicon alloy containing 0.5~4% silicon has lower hysteresis loss and higher resistivity than pure iron, which is suitable for use in high magnetic field of power frequency and audio frequency. In order to reduce the eddy current loss, the iron silicon alloy must be hot rolled into 0.35 or 0.5 mm thick sheet, punch into a certain shape, laminated use, so it is generally called silicon steel sheet. It is the largest consumption in the electric power industry, so it is often called electrical steel.

The cold rolled Fe-Si alloy strip forms Gaussian texture along the rolling direction, which can make full use of its magnetic properties and reduce the loss when used in the rolling direction. Depending on the frequency of use, the thickness of the belt is also different (generally 0.02~0.2 mm). In practical application, the cold-rolled iron-silicon alloy should be insulated, wound and finally made into a magnetic core of a certain shape (such as E, C, etc.). In the power industry, iron silicon alloy is mainly used for motor, transformer, in the electronic industry, mainly used for power transformers, audio transformers, pulse transformers and so on.
